FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Here are answers to our most frequently asked questions.
1) Is Arts SU part of UAL?
No. Arts SU is a charity. It is a separate organisation to UAL but is the official students' union for UAL. This means that Arts SU has regulations that students need to follow that are different from UAL's rules.
2) I am an international student. Can I sell at the markets and other events?
If you have a UK Student VISA please check your VISA conditions. Selling at the markets is considered self-employment. We are students and cannot give you advice.
3) Do you have weekly meetings for members?
No. We organise socials and workshops for our members. These will run several times a year.
4) What is the difference between a member and an officer?
Members can attend all of the events and activities run by the society. They do not have a role in organising the events or activities. Student Officers (also known as committee members) have an official role that is recognised by Arts SU. Student Officers have to apply for their position and be elected. They plan events and help to run the society. They have to attend Arts SU training and development for committee members and cannot act as an officer if they have not attended Arts SU training. This includes health and safety training, finance and learning about the role of Arts SU.
5) Do you have weekly meetings for society officers?
Sell It Society Officers meet when they need to organise an event or activity. This may be every week for a few weeks leading up to an event.
6) If I am an officer how much of my time will this take?
Most officer roles are flexible in terms of how much time is required. Typically you decide how much time you can spend and you agree the tasks that you want to do with the rest of the team.
7) Can I help without being an officer?
Yes. You can help by taking part in events such as the showcase or exhibitions. We will send out an open call to members to ask if they would like to showcase or exhibit their work at society events.
8) How can I meet other society members?
You can meet other members at our society socials. These are events where our members socialise together. We ask that members follow the Arts SU code of conduct and treat all students with respect https://www.arts-su.com/pageassets/union/governance/Student-Code-of-Conduct-PDF.pdf
9) How can I find out what socials are being run?
We use the Arts SU website to send messages to members. The Arts SU site will forward the message to your UAL email address.
10) Can I set up a group/social media for the society?
No. Only the President of the Society or someone the President has delegated this task to can set up social media pages/accounts, messaging or communication channels or other sites for the society. If members choose to communicate with each other using messaging tools or groups they cannot use the name of the society or the society branding or logo.
11) I am selling at a market and have never done it before. Can you help?
Before an event like a market there will be a training session for those members who will be selling at that event. There may also be other workshops run by the society members.
